An incredible 1982 Ramirez 1a handmade by Mariano Tezanos at the Jose Ramires Workshop. One of the last few built by Tezanos because he left Ramirez in the same year. Those are considered the peak years for Ramirez workshop.

For more than fifty years, the name José Ramirez has stood as one of the most iconic among classical and flamenco guitar enthusiasts. Ramirez guitars have been played by a wide range of renowned artists, from Andrés Segovia to Sting, Chet Atkins to Sabicas, and Lee Ritenour to Christopher Parkening.

The particular guitar has gorgeous, rich sound and excellent projection. Deep basses, clear and articulated trebles with the signature warmth that the 1a is famous for. No wonder this model was used by masters like Andrés Segovia, Alex Park, Joshua Moore among others.

Condition

The guitar is in excellent overall condition with only a few superficial nicks and scratchers that are only noticeable when you're looking very closely. The fretboard is in great shape with barely any signs of use. Unbelievable condition for an instrument of this age. It's a gem indeed.

We keep our guitars in a room with humidity set to 50% at 22 degrees (75F).
The neck is straight, action is medium. It's comfortable to play. The saddle has been adjusted low. (seen on pic 8).

The white strips on some of the pictures are just reflections.

Mariano Tezanos' Bio
Born in 1949 in Madrid, in the house Manuel Ramirez used to live in, which was directly across the street from Marcelo Barbero's house. His father, originally a printer, worked at that during the day, while in the
evenings, Barbero would show him guitar building. In 1963, when he was 14 years old, he started working with Ramirez. Paulino Bernabe was the foreman of the shop at the time. He helped around the shop cleaning, etc., and his father would help him hone his skills in the evening. Built guitars with Ramirez for 20 years, until the end of 1982. From 1983 until 1990, built guitars for Arturo Sanzano, who left Ramirez at the same time, under the name of Moreno y Castro. Began working with Gregorio Perez in 1993.

With Jose Ramirez III leading the workshop, this Ramirez 1a Concert Classical Long Scale uses the slipper foot construction. This method defines the tradition that countless other builders follow, with the slipper foot join integrating the sides and neck for maximum resonance and response.

In terms of materials used in construction, this Ramirez 1a Concert Classical Long Scale also uses the Red Cedar top pioneered by Jose Ramirez III, paired with a lovely set of Indian Rosewood for the sides, back, head plate and bridge. The sides include another Ramirez innovation, having an interior lining of Cypress. This decreases the production of ‘wolf tones' when the guitar is played at performance volumes. While this is in the strictest sense a lamination, it is not the same as the ‘laminated woods' found in many electric arch-top or lower end acoustic instruments.

The neck is Cedro or Spanish Cedar, Cedrela Odorata, which despite the name is neither Spanish or a true cedar, being from Central and South America and more closely related to Mahogany, with Ebony for the fingerboard. The back of the neck displays a black stripe, which is an Ebony stiffener.
