Yamaha GC-3D Handmade Concert Classical Guitar Built and Signed by T. Kaneko, Solid Ezo Spruce, IRW 1973
A handmade Concert Classical Guitar Yamaha GC-3D from 1973
Signed by Takehide Kaneko, one of the prominent Yamaha Workshop luthiers.
The condition of this guitar is unbelievable considering it's half a century old!
It's very clean with just a few minor signs of use.
The tone wood that was used for the top of this guitar is Japanese Ezo (Ezo matsu) Spruce.
This type of spruce grows in the high mountains of Hokkaido island.
Harvesting of this type of spruce has been banned by the Japanese government a long time ago.
There is a limited old stock that is still available in Japan
but to commission a guitar with an Ezo spruce top nowadays would cost thousands.
The back is from a two piece book-matched rosewood with beautiful, even grain.
In that period of time, the GC models were inspired by Spanish guitar design and sound.
The guitar has been kept in a room with humidity set to 50% at 25 degrees (75F).
The action is medium to low, comfortable to play.
It has a rich, well balanced and resonant tone with unique and beautiful harmonics. Very good volume and sustain. An absolute joy to play.
Condition
There are a few minor signs of use such as light scratches, superficial fingernail marks on the top and fretboard. Nothing deep through the finish.
