Yamaha GC-5M Concert Classical Guitar Handmade in Japan 1974
Yamaha GC-5M Concert Classical Guitar Handmade in Japan 1974
Handmade and signed by Shuhiro Harada - one of the most talented Yamaha Custom Shop luthiers in the 70s.
The condition of this guitar is unbelievable considering it's 47 years old.
It's very clean with just a few minor signs of use.
The guitar was kept in a room with 45% humidity at 25 degrees (75F).
The action is medium to low, comfortable to play.
Set up with Aquila Sugar for trebles and D'Addario EJ45LP for basses.
The tone wood that was used for the top is Japanese Ezo Spruce.
Ezo spruce grows in the high mountains in Japan and no longer allowed to be harvested.
There are some old stocks still available in Japan or outside Japan.
To commission a guitar with Ezo spruce top nowadays will cost thousands.
GC models sold in 1971-74 were GC3, GC5 and GC7.
In that era, the GC models were imitations of Spanish guitar in construction and sound.
